D Fast and Dirty is a generic, quick, uncomplicated yet realistic game system for modern day and future skirmish wargames which can scale easily to much larger battles. The system is designed to be easy to learn and play but still allow for deep and strategic game play and is built upon basic military principles such as troop morale, motivation, and experience.

Each player fields a force, ranging from a few squads to a reinforced platoon with support elements, including heavy weapons, artillery and even vehicles. You can try out the game using troops with basic profiles and the basic rules and then move on to trying some of our pre-written "official" units, or delve into our army builder and make some profiles for your own units.

As soon as humans began to explore the deeper regions of the galaxy, they encountered the Green Skinned menace? Devoid of fear and attacking without warning, few settlements avoid their onslaught. Greenskins exist for one sole purpose, to fight!

Distorting and corrupting all that are infected, turning them into shuffling husks of their former selves. As soon as commercial freighters started to travel between worlds, wild Rats spread amongst the stars. At some point in history these rats mutated and became sentient beings. Now they have built a society from the scavenged remains of other races.Nice review. Excellent ruleset and the unit builder lets you create any kind of army you want, unlike many other "open" games. Good review. Thank you for that! I've been thinking about picking up grunts. Well worth picking up.

Cost, storage Never played warmachine but I am looking for something to play 15mm Hammers Slammers style actions. This might be a bit less tankcentric than Crucible Vehicles fit well into the game as opposed to some rules where vehicles are kinda bolted on so Hammers Slammers wouldn't be a problem Tomorrow's War on the other hand, seems better focussed on "hard" sci fi so it might also be worth a look.

Thought i would leave a comment to show the longevity and utility of your posts. I just listened to the latest Meeples and Miniatures podcast episode in which they interview the author of these rules, Robin Fitton. BTW the author has now released a set of print on demand cards for random activation, which also incorporate random events and temporary effects.

Sounds like that would be a neat addition to the game. Pleased to hear it! I haven't played it for ages and as it's updated quite often my opinion may be out of date; no better than any other. Games that lend themselves well to solo play are ones with reaction mechanics with reaction mechanics or ones that force logical play Tomorrow's War, for example, would be easier for me to play both sides, as it tends to force a certain style of play.

Or you do something like could borrow a Two Hour Wargame reaction mechanic have a look at the free Chain Reaction 3. From what I see on videos it looks well suited to solo play. The author claims to play it that way often. Tried THW stuff but always seemed too complicated to figure out. I just can't seem to grasp the rules. You can play anything solo if you want. I don't recall anything that makes Gruntz especially suited to it, compared to other games.

Though they have improved of late Free CR3. That's the one I was using. I was also talking with Ed Teixera about it as well. I feel like I need to play a game with someone who knows how in order to get it. I did purchase their racing game though. That's not a sign of clear, well laid out rules writing. Thing is, I want to love THW's rules. Ed is a very nice guy, and thus far has given me loads of great customer support, very responsive to questions and I believe he has a true passion for his work.

That said, a bit of complicated rules mixed with my style of overthinking stuff when I read rules and I read a lot of them, I'm a ruleset collector tooit just because something I couldn't get into.

I've tried twice now, and perhaps I'll give it another shot sometime, but I don't like that I had to take my own notes from the rulebook and collect all answers to questions I've seen in the forums and try to piece together some of the mechanics.Read The Rules.

Thank Ivan - he's the one who requested the branching into free rules. I just listen to the customers! How have you not linked Infinity??? As a free rules set it deserves mentioning! I bang on about it enough I thought I think I'd be interested to see what you would say about Warstrike, nee the M42 Project.

I think it's free? I never bothered to delve into it, as it seems to be a "Make 40K but better" by 40K-centric players I'd be interested to know what other games they've played besides 40K - which is something most of us have done at some stage. It's something most players go through. Start playing 40K 2. Switch to other games Warmachine if competitive, other indie games if not 7.

Eventually get sick of GW business practices 9. Vow never to ever buy one of their products again.

I seem to be on 7, but my 40k spending has gone radically up. I really like 7th edition. The notion that there's a conflict of interest in a company producing miniatures and rules doesn't really make sense to me. Could you explain this in more detail? Witness 40K turning from a characterful semi-RPG skirmish game, to a platoon-company level game to which its mechanics are not particularly suited.

Subject: [Generic Sci-fi] Any good generic sci-fi skirmish games? While musing on life and an English essay that I just didn't give enough feths to work on, I was wondering if there was any generic science fiction skirmish games dudes a side that were available preferably on the Internet for free, but I'm game. After getting back into AD and Judge Dredd, and what with me also being a fan of the game 'Sleeping Dogs' and the film 'The Untouchables', I was wondering if this game could be a bit pulp-y or gang - based.

Also if it had a campaign ability, that would be swell So far, I have considered Gorkamorka nice rules, vehicle rules and everything, but its just Orks and Necromunda like Gormamorka, but without vehicles, and I don't have the campaign book.

I have even passingly considered Inquisitor, although that really is very in depth, and as such I'd probably get irritated. Usually I'd try to write my own rules, but what with going back to College and all, I am struggling more and more to find time to game. So, back to my original question: Do you know of any generic sci-fi skirmish wargaming rules?

Thank you, LoT. Consider it a social experiment. Subject: Re:[Generic Sci-fi] Any good generic sci-fi skirmish games? It covers modern combat and pulp adventures, prohibition era gansters etc but also has not-Stargate sample characters and scenarios as examples in the rulebook.

The online squad builder is generic enough to cover most things you might want to stat up. I've used it to stat various 40k races and play space hulk with, but also played Judge Dredd vs perps.

And the rulebook is only 8 dollars. Those who live by the sword get shot by those who don't. My club plays almost nothing but generic rule sets and there are quite a few out there that are really well done for free or very reasonably priced. A few my club has tried and a few we haven't that you should consider.

Unless stated otherwise, these are free systems. It's based in the 40k universe with lots of scenarios and warbands and a really nice campaign system, but has a unit creation mechanic we use it for generic skirmishes.Alternative Armies has a huge array of miniatures and game systems.

Back to the 28mm Sci-Fi Message Board. Many of the futuristic skirmish games play as though the weapons are typical rifles and pistols. Any suggestions? So Infinity has a lot of normal rifles and pistols but it also has a TON of depth to it as far as having hacking, EM rounds, invisibility and all kinds of sci-fi stuff.

Guys, I appreciate the suggestions, but i've been a gamer for years, and if I wanted to I could home brew some rules. I like Pulp Alley, but it's just guys shooting guys, and the types of weapons don't really matter. I want something imaginative. More imaginative than me.

Both are more in the Rogue Trader infantry and a couple vehicles per side scale. The only game I know that is written for models per side is Infinity. The current edition of the rules is written to be a better game at the expense of some realism. The previous edition of the game was written for maximum realism.

You should still be able to find pdfs of the old, 2nd edition rules, but I really think the current edition is a significant step up. If you have any questions about the Infinity rules, don't be afraid to sign up on the forums, forum.
